This project will officially close its doors in April 2003. A CD-ROM of the site, including the guestbook, will be sent to Chris as a memento. Please leave any messages of thanks or support in the guestbook before the end of March. Also, we are able to bring you audio footage of Chris Carter discussing the Carter Foundation and his feelings about the end of the show with TYCC's Deslea Judd and 1013 publicist Robin Benty. The footage is used courtesy of 1013, with special thanks to Robin, who made it possible.
It began with two agents, one a believer and one a skeptic,
meeting in a basement. From there, it exploded into a pop
culture phenomenon which fuelled our imaginations and our
hearts. There were twists and questions and shocks and
thrills and grief, and we kept coming back for more. Now,
after nine years and 200 episodes, The X Files is coming to
an end. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the
show's creator and driving force, Chris Carter, without whom
none of this would have been possible. It's been an
extraordinary journey - for the characters, for the fans,
for the people behind the scenes - and for that, we offer
our sincere gratitude.
This campaign, aptly enough, is about continuing to fuel
imaginations and dreams. Through the California Community
Foundation, Chris Carter has established The Carter
Foundation, which will provide scholarships to students who
excel in the study of science. It seems appropriate that we
use this opportunity to thank Mr. Carter by encouraging
people to join in on this admirable quest. In doing so, we
can ensure that while the show may be ending, the X Files
will continue to inspire people to think and to provide
young people with the chance to ask questions and to seek "The
Truth."
One of our co-ordinators, Deslea, had the opportunity to talk to Chris about the project by telephone in May. She says, "Chris said thank you very much to us for thinking of him in this way, and told us a little about his brother, a scientist, who was an inspiration for the Foundation. He sounded very touched. So, thank you to everyone for being involved!"
The campaign stopped actively tracking donations at the end of May 2002, but you're still welcome to donate to The Carter Foundation in Chris Carter's honour, and to sign our guestbook as well. This site will remain as a static tribute until the domain expires in April 2003, with thanks to Gertiebeth.
