In addition to the advertisement in The Hollywood Reporter, we have made US$1800 in donations to the Children's Hospital of New Mexico, Albuquerque, one of Annabeth's preferred charities. We also made a donation of US$75 to Carrie Tingley Hospital, Albuquerque, who were very helpful to us early in the campaign. Honeywell matched that $75 for a total of US$150. We also know of another US$25 in donations made directly to the Children's Hospital and UNICEF in the name of the project. Some residual merchandise was donated to the Children's Hospital and to The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company, a youth program run by recurring X Files player Laura Leigh Hughes, who played Kersh's assistant.
Children's Hospital Of New Mexico:
"Children's Hospital of New Mexico provides family-centered care, recognizing that the family is the constant in a child's life. Family-centered care encourages parent/professional collaboration at all levels of health care. We recognize family strengths and individuality, and by honoring racial, ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of families, we respect different methods of coping."
Among the hospital's specialist pediatric facilities are a cardiac unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, and the Child Life Program, a program aimed at easing the transition of child and family into and out of the health care setting, and at reducing the stressful impact of the child's illness. The hospital is administered by the Health Sciences Department of the University Of New Mexico.
Carrie Tingley Hospital:
"Carrie Tingley Hospital has a legacy of over sixty years of commitment to New Mexico's children. Our physicians and staff provide responsive, caring and coordinated healthcare services of the highest quality to children and adolescents who require acute and long-term medical and therapeutic care. From long-term inpatient or outpatient attention to specialized surgical treatment, the caring and experienced healthcare teams at Carrie Tingley Hospital provide care directed toward the whole child or adolescent and family." The staff at Carrie Tingley were very helpful to us early in our campaign. Find out more about the hospital here.
UNICEF Hong Kong:
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946 to meet the emergency needs of children in the aftermath of World War II in Europe. UNICEF is the only UN organisation dedicated exclusively to children. UNICEF works closely with other United Nations agencies, governments and NGOs to provide community-based service in primary health care, nutrition, basic education, and safe water and sanitation to the developing world. It aims to reduce the terrible toll the lack of such services takes on the world's youngest citizens. UNICEF was one of the recipients of the Equity Program. Find out more about the activities of UNICEF in Hong Kong here.
The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company:
"The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company exists to bring theatre arts to at-risk teens. Through improvisation and writing exercises, professionals in the arts work to help young people create original theatre and to foster pride, self-confidence and racial tolerance."
The Unusual Suspects was founded in 1993 after the LA riots by actress Laura Leigh Hughes. X Files fans will know Laura as Kersh's assistant, but her more significant work is with troubled teens. For ten years now, she and her team have led programs to aid children under the care of the Department of Children and Family Services, and, more recently, Central Juvenile Hall. Find out more about The Unusual Suspects here.
