The Advertisement

We reached our first fundraising target, and as a result we were able to place the Thank You Annabeth advertisement in The Hollywood Reporter on May 10. This edition of THR was a special commemorative issue marking the end of the show, and it was the same edition in which the other thank you advertisements appeared as well.

Cost

We placed a full page black-and-white advertisement at a cost of $2325. Our thanks to Hollywood Reporter Asia-Pacific for arranging these reduced rates. Excess monies will be used for donations.

Design

A small version of the full page ad design appears below, and a larger version is available here. The advertisement was designed by Deslea Judd. The photographs are used by kind permission of Ten Thirteen Productions, and the X Files logo by kind permission of 20th Century FOX. We thank them, and also Laura for image help, and Vered for a frame which we modified and used in the ad graphic.

Why The Names?

Why fan names on the ad? We'll be honest. The reason for the fan names is money. We started our fundraising very late in the game, and we wanted some incentives to accelerate the process. So, we included the names of everyone who donated over $70US prior to the art deadline on the bottom of the print ad, along with a pointer to our URL, which contains the full donor list. Names were used in this fashion on the 2001 Nick Lea ad to good effect.

But Isn't That...Well...Tacky?

We don't think so. Our intention in including names was certainly not to appeal to egos, but to appeal to people's natural desire to thank Annabeth in a very personal way. Think of it like signing a thank you card. Everyone who wanted their names attached to the project is noted on the donors page, but the names on the print ad are strictly for people who have donated cash or services over $70. This is partly due to the nature of the incentive and partly due to the pragmatic limits of space.

How Do I Get A Copy?

If you live in an entertainment district such as LA or New York, you should be able to get it from the bigger newsstands. We had been previously advised to back-order the issue once it came out, but since then,
Thank You David has been told that they would now like us to pre-order. It looks like they're planning a bigger print run to accommodate the extra orders. The information is as follows.

"We're aware that the Hollywood Reporter may not be available at your local newsstand. However, the good news is that you can order a copy of the May 10th X-Files Special Edition issue directly from the Hollywood Reporter. The details are below."

Cost: $5.50 per issue - this price includes postage. (I have been told by another source that overseas the cost is $10, but please confirm this before ordering).

Order Deadline: To ensure that you get a copy your pre-order MUST be received by the Hollywood Reporter by May 1, 2002.
