An old Krycek/Marita collage of mine, Hands
Virus Alert: Just a warning that viruses are again on the spread in Phile land. They've been flying around the Phile email address books for the last 24 hours or so, so run a virus scan, and if you receive emails with attachments or embedded executables from fellow Philes, be sure they really sent them (some viruses fake the source address as well as including the virus itself, to make their eradication more difficult). For my part, I never send attachments except by prior arrangement, so if you receive an attachment from deslea.com, don't open it.

The Emmys: As most of you probably know already, David Duchovny (Mulder) was nominated for an Emmy for his guest spot on Life With Bonnie. If I may take a moment for off-topic glee, I'll point out that Firefly was nominated for one for visual effects, as well. Congratulations!

How Will It End: The fanfic recommendation site How Will It End has been updated. There are lots of recs, including my Yves/Jimmy fic Whisperjack. See them all here.

Laurie Sighting: Laurie Holden (Marita) was spotted at the Concern Foundation's 29th annual Block Party. The party, which raised over a million dollars for the foundation's anti-smoking and lung cancer activities, was held at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The story is here. Thanks to Alfornos for the heads up!

Lucy Lawless: SciFi.com reported this week that Lucy (Shannon McMahon) has signed on for a film tentatively titled Bogeyman. The film is shooting in New Zealand, and is about a young man tormented by memories of events in his bedroom as a child.

Mitch and Arlene Pileggi (Skinner and Kim) at the Tarzan press conference
Mitch Moving On: Mitch Pileggi commented on his role of Skinner at a press conference for his new show, Tarzan. "Some people perceive Skinner to be complex," he said. "I just basically was trying to remember my lines...After I finished doing The X-Files, I had to go back to acting class to see if I could still act." Ouch! But all is not lost, Skinneristas - he says he'll probably reprise his role for a second X Files movie. "I owe a lot to The X-Files. I owe a lot to that whole nine years, you know? I met my wife. I had my daughter. ... So it was a big part of my life. But it's nice to move on." The full story is here.

Thirteen Again: David Duchovny has signed on to provide the lead voice for a highly-anticipated video game, XIII. The game is about a secret agent with amnesia (Duchovny's character) embroiled in a conspiracy. A high-res photo of David doing voice work can be found here, and more details about the game can be found here. The links are high-bandwidth - only for people with broadband or lots of patience. Thanks, Alfornos!

Art Around The Fandom: Lucky has made a funky new Krycek collage! See it at 4D. Yum. Mrs Krycek has a gorgeous new Krycek collage. I haven't been to her site in a while, and it's looking great. Plus, Linzee has been on an XF kick, with recent works including a Scully one and a Knowle/Shannon piece just for me. *glee*

Saturday, July 12, 2003 - BUMPER CATCHUP UPDATE!

Dreamer
I'm Baaack! I'm sorry I've left you all dangling for a while! I've been working on a big project on the side that I think you'll enjoy a great deal. But it's not ready yet, so for now, I'll just give a bumper news and site update. Also, I've updated the site map on the left, and archived some of the older news.

At Times...I Almost Dream: Decemberlady's site is beautiful as always, and this month, she's written a lovely tribute to me (June 30 update). Thank you so much! Don't forget to check out DL's great challenges while you're there - there are some wonderful artists spotlighted, and she remains a great patron of the arts in our community.

Virtuosity: June/July Xine is called Virtuosity, and it's all about the various XF virtual series that are out there. Virtual series, for those who aren't familiar with them, are a way for writers to collaborate and keep the show alive. You may have heard of some, but chances are you haven't seen them all. There are profiles for nearly a dozen series, plus hints and resources for aspiring writers and producers, too. See it here.

I Believe
Literatti: My fic site has been updated with three short fics. The Lone Hand is a The Beginning missing scene in which Jeffrey and Diana reach an understanding. Three Times A Lady is a moment between Doggett and Diana written for a challenge (NC17). I Believe is a Marita POV on a post-col world. All are presented with cover art. Enjoy!

Green Iguana: Speaking of fanfic, Green Iguana recommendations has a long-overdue mini-update with twenty-one new recs. I have about fifty pending recs that I have to sort through and write blurbs for, but this is a start. Also updated recently is the excellent rec site The Other Side.

Season 8 DVD, and David In The City: Season 8 will arrive on DVD in Region 1 on 4 November. Thanks to Alfornos for the heads up! Also from Alfornos is the news that David Duchovny will appear in Sex In The City in August (US air dates). The New York Post claimed today that he would appear in four episodes. It appears that his character will be a potential beau for Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker).

More David: Still on the subject of David, he is set to make his feature writing/directing debut with House Of D. The feature will star Robin Williams, and has been described as a fable about the power of friendship. David, wife Tea Leoni (who appeared in Hollywood A.D.), and Nick Lea (Krycek) will all appear in the film. The film begins production in September. Thanks Eileen and Alfornos!

Lucy sketch
New Art (1): I've done a couple of new sketches, both of Lucy Lawless (Shannon). I'm becoming more familiar with charcoal, and I'm especially pleased with the more recent of the two. See them both at my sketch art site, Impart. Also at Impart is a rather unusual digital vector drawing of Laurie Holden that I did last year and never got around to posting anywhere. Take a look!

New Art (2), And A New Art Site: I've also done a couple of new digital artworks, including some cover art and a nice, sleek Mulder/Diana piece. I've also finally done the long-overdue overhaul of my digital art site, which now has a new name and a new address. Total Impact, and my newer artworks, can be found here.

Art Around The Fandom: I'm not the only artist who's been busy. Linzee has a gorgeous new Mulder/Diana artwork, and Tere has a simply beautiful Krycek/Marita collage. Kristi has made an adorable Follmer/Reyes collage that ties in with 4D. Go! Look! Send feedback!

Laurie Holden: Laurie Holden (Marita) has just wrapped up filming a new movie called Meet Market about LA singles hooking up in their local grocery store. It looks like a light comedy piece, and Laurie is second on the cast list. She appears opposite Susan Egan and Julian McMahon.

Robert and Gillian (S8 promo)
Robert Patrick Goodies: The Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition DVD is finally available in Australia and elsewhere. Don't miss this, Robert Patrick fans - the extras DVD includes heaps of great clips of a young Robert, including casting clips, interview clips, and clips of him working with the makeup and special effects crew to create his chilling role as the T-1000. Plus, Many Roles Of Robert Patrick has new content as always, a new layout for ease of navigation, and some fantastic pics of him in Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle. Great work, Laura!

New Official XF Site: FOX has launched a new X Files site specifically for the DVD sets. There are write-ups for all the sets so far with details of the various extra features, plus screen shots for the various DVD-ROM games. There is a trivia game, and a messageboard is promised. See it here.

GAWS: The annual Gillian Anderson Website auction was a great success, with GAWS advising a tentative figure in the vicinity of US$50,000 for NF, Inc. As always, many thanks to everyone involved in this wonderful program!

Zuleikha's New Film: Zuleikha Robinson (Yves) has recently finished filming Hildago, due for release on October 3 in the US. IMDB has trailers in several formats, including some lovely footage of Zuleikha. She also celebrated her twenty-sixth birthday on June 29.

Firefly: Joss Whedon's popular but ill-fated series Firefly, which starred Adam Baldwin (Knowle), will be released on DVD in the US on December 9. There are also very strong indications, including informal confirmation from Whedon, Baldwin, and others, that a Firefly movie will proceed.

Nicholas Lea
Nick Lea: There's a great interview with Nick Lea (Krycek) in The Province. It's here, and archived at NickLea.com. Nick speaks of his pleasure at returning to Vancouver to live, and of the difficulties the distance placed on his two-year relationship. He will apparently appear in David Duchovny's new movie, House Of D (see above). Nick celebrated his 41st birthday on June 22, and the fifth annual NickLea.com Charity Auction raised over US$1000. Nick, it's great to see you again.

Australian Philes: The Season 1 DVDs have now been released separately, as well as in a set. K-Mart had them on special this week for AU$14.95 - I'm expecting the normal retail price to be around $20. No word on whether this will happen with subsequent seasons.

Millennium: Olivier at October 13th advises that the release of the Millennium series on DVD seems likely after Chris Carter completes his involvement in producing the X Files DVDs next year. No word as yet, as far as I can tell, on the Lone Gunmen series.

Chris Carter Interview: Speaking of CC, there was a wonderful interview with him on the TNT site recently - see it here. Chris again repeats his desire to continue the X Files story in film. Thanks to the fantastic Chris Carter Online for the heads up.

Release trading card - Annabeth and Robert
All Things Annabeth: ATA is now facilitating regular Q&A with Annabeth Gish (Reyes). The first lot of questions and answers can be found on July 3. As always, Gishphile is doing a simply beautiful job with ATA, so make it one of your regular stops. She also wrote a lovely tribute to me on June 5. Thank you so much!

Pop Culture Reference: There's an irreverent Flash presentation about the war on Iraq here which includes a cartoon representation of the Lone Gunmen. 2.5MB, requires the latest Flash player. (Be warned, this presentation is somewhat polemic and may be offensive to some).

The Lone Gunwoman: An old XF site has been moved and revived. This one has lots to see, including reviews, opinion pieces, and more. It's a blast from the past and well worth the look.

Brad Follmer (No, Not That One): SciFi.com and other places have reported that Brad Follmer has sold a script called Superhero Summer Camp to Warner Bros. Follmer and fellow writer Lauren Iungerich will now pen the screenplay - it's the pair's first major writing assignment. It's believed that Follmer is the same Brad Follmer who worked for Chris Carter, for whom Cary Elwes' character was named.

Around The Web: There is a growing collection of Season 7 DVD captures at the DVD Screen Capture Archive. Megan has a new design and some small updates at Road Runners. Kate has some very cool personal news at Touchstone. Lucky has some good things in the works, including an episode guide, at 4th Dimension, as well as some hot leads on some great, and in some cases rarely-seen promo shots at the BBC.
