NOTE: Some links in older updates may be out of date.
Dean Haglund: LA residents, Lulu's Beehive Coffeehouse will feature Dean (Langly) in a stand-up comedy performance tonight (Friday) at 11pm. The venue located at 13203 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604. The phone number is (818) 986-2233. I have no idea whether bookings are required. For more information, see the Midnight Comedy Hour website. Enjoy the show!
Fan Art: Tere and Mels have made a gorgeous new XF fanart fanlisting - see it here. Although the graphic scheme is M/S-centric, Tere historically has been supportive of all genres of XF art, and the fanlisting is for everyone. Thanks Kate for the heads-up.
XF Documentary: There is an hour-long documentary on both the show and its fans, complete with behind-the-scenes interviews - it's available for purchase here. Don't expect any season 9 insights, though - it was filmed a couple of years ago. Still, I hadn't seen any information on it before, so I figured it was worth a heads-up. It's available in both NTSC and PAL.
Another quickie today. The Boy Wonder is on the mend - thank you all for the kind words!
Bruce Harwood: There is a new Official Site for Bruce Harwood (Byers) here. It's pretty plain, but a good collection of basic information with links to interviews. There's fan mail information as well. It's about time! Also, does anyone know what's happening with Dean Haglund's site? Last I heard it was being revamped, but that was ages ago. Let me know!
Gravity Of Love: Don't forget, today's your last day to download BDodd's gorgeous music video Gravity Of Love - get it here. Our thanks to BDodd, Steph, and The Scully Marathon for helping us to make this happen!
Just a couple of quick links today, people. My five-year-old had a bad accident at school - he'll be fine, but he's got heaps of cuts all over his body and will lose a tooth. He's pretty shaken. Lots of TLC and cuddling in front of Harry Potter tonight, I think. Not sure whether I'll do much on the site the next day or two. I'll keep you posted.
Dripper Art: Lucky posted an exquisite Doggett/Reyes collage overnight - see it over at Philedom2k's Pandemonium. This is gorgeous - lovely tones, lovely crisp and soft areas. Just beautiful.
Scans: I didn't want to leave you with nothing, so I've put up a couple of scans - Laurie Holden in workout mode, with a short (readable) article in Self late last year - see that here - and a really nice one of Gillian Anderson. They're both big ones, close to 200KB.
Beeee Husssbandry: I've transcribed a very cool 1998 article on the smallpox/altered-bee story arc. This excellent commentary, from an Australian sci-fi magazine, combines on-screen details and science to produce a solid discussion of the arc. I've added some of my own notes as well. This is an excellent resource for the fanfic writer and mythology geek - see it here.
Spotsy's New Gig: This is older news, from when I was sick a couple of weeks ago, but Frank Spotnitz has a new gig lined up. He will be executive producer for a new police drama for CBS. Get the details here. Thanks Laura for the heads up.
There's been an explosion of fanfic the last week or so, after a very quiet few months. It's been my opinion for a while that writers were waiting for the finale to unfold before committing to new work, and it's great to see the payoff now. So, today's update is all about fanfic and resources.
The Truth Script: The inimitable Steph has added the transcript of The Truth to the X Files Transcript Directory. Fanfic writers, here's your chance to double-check your details!
Spooky Awards: Speaking of fanfic, the Spookys are finally up and running again under their new management. See the new site here, and don't forget to send them your recent fics. Remember, the Spookys are the awards of the alt.tv.x-files.creative newsgroup, so if it didn't appear there, it isn't eligible. If you don't have newsreader software, there's always Google Groups.
NeXt Files: Jeri has a new fanfic archive up for post-XF fanfic situated primarily after The Truth - see it here. There is a mailing list as well.
My Archives: I have heaps of fodder for the Ratcave, the Harem and the Green Iguana, and I'm itching to get them updated. Hopefully they'll be done by the end of the week. Among other goodies, there's some fabulous Krycek/Marita post-eps I just have to share! Just for a teaser, there's a fabulous Jeffrey Spender background piece by Erynn here.
Philedom Art Challenges: Voting has begun for the Relationships artwork challenge at Philedom2K. What I love about the Philedom art community is its versatility - this challenge includes Mulder/Scully, Krycek/Marita, Doggett/Reyes, and Doggett/Scully works. Vote for your top pick here, second here, and third here. You need to register to vote.

Sunday, May 26, 2002 - SECOND UPDATE
|
Gah! I uploaded those wallpapers from the earlier update to the wrong directory. Sorry, people! They're in the right place now.
Tooms Revealed: Doug Hutchison, remembered on XF as creepy Eugene Victor Tooms, appeared in April 2002 Venice Magazine - see the online version here. There is a very cool arty picture of him - I never knew he could look so good! Get more info on Doug's activities from his very up-to-date Official Site, including his diaries from working The Green Mile. See the picture gallery, as well - there are some fabulous images.
Laurie Holden: On the subject of Venice Magazine, this is older news but you might have missed it because it pre-dates this page. Laurie had a fabulous interview in Venice in January - take a look!
Timothy Carhart: Reading up on Doug reminded me of another early-years XF creep, Timothy Carhart (Incanto, 2Shy). I've transcribed a very cool 1996 interview with him - see that here.

Behind The Scenes Artwork: Thanks to a challenge by SLS at Philedom, I decided to play with those great behind-the-scenes photographs from the Official Site, and I came up with this wallpaper - get it in 800x600, 1024x768, or 1152x864 sizes.
More Finale Ramblings: Schwartze has a very cool analysis of the finale called The Vanity Of Man which he has kindly allowed me to archive - see that here. I love this - this is the kind of deep philosophical stuff I thrive on. (Yeah, I'm a geek. And if you've got something to say about it, do I have a mean binary code for you, buster.)
Spotsy On Fan Culture: Frank Spotnitz spoke to Cinescape Online about fan culture recently. It's premium content, but I have some quotes here. I got this about fourth hand, so thank you to whoever originally made it available. Spotsy makes some controversial statements here, but FWIW I have some sympathy for his POV.
Music Video: I have made a new music video for The Truth. Really pleased about this one. Get it here - it's 5MB, Winzip 8 to open, Windows Media or equivalent to play (ASF format). Just a quick plug here for a cool media player called Sasami - it's freeware and has many cool features like brightness, sharpen, and soften controls. Thanks as always to the lovely Steph for hosting.
ArchiveCentral: I've had one bug report about the content archived at ArchiveCentral - please let me know if you have any problems and I'll look into them. The idea of this is to make things more accessible, not less so!
Paula Vitaris: Many of you will recognise the name Paula Vitaris - she's a freelance writer who does the annual Cinefantastique report on the show. Well, I've just come across a goldmine - a heap of her articles transcribed online. See them here. And Paula, if you're reading this, drop me a line - I've lost your email addy, but I have some Jim Carrey/The Majestic stuff you might like.

|
Official Site: The OS has a new crop of photos up from behind the scenes of the finale here. My favourites are 6 (LH, NL, others), 8 (NL, MP), 14 (LGM), and also a lovely GA/CC one, 13. It's great to see some Nick pictures at last!
Thank You Robin: This is a good moment to thank a wonderful woman named Robin. Robin is the name behind the Official Site, and she's the one responsible for the endless stream of behind-the-scenes pictures, videos, webcasts, and all the other online treats we've been privileged to access - treats virtually unheard of in other fandoms. She also fields all those abusive emails people send every time some controversial plot twist airs, and she answers a hell of a lot of questions every day. It's a thankless job, and Robin does it better than just about any other TV show webwrangler you'll find. We're lucky to have her - I doubt many of us will realise just how lucky until we spread our wings into other fandoms. Robin, thank you so much.
Spotzy Speaks: There is a fabulous interview with Frank Spotnitz at SciFi.Com - see it here. I love reading Spotzy wax mythology - that guy rocks my world. Thanks Kate for the heads-up.
I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things! Thank you to the people who've written with get well wishes!
More Stories To Tell: Frank Spotnitz tells SciFiWire that there was a lot of footage cut from the finale for reasons of broadcast time rather than editorial reasons - and that he hopes that footage will be restored for the DVD. Whoo-hoo! So THAT'S where my missing Gunmen, Krycek, and Marita moments went! See the story here.
Tea Leoni: There was a great interview with Tea Leoni (Hollywood A.D.) in Hello magazine, and Chimerical has a transcript here. I said "Aww..." a few times - it brought back memories of my own pregnancy. Her baby with husband David Duchovny is due any time (although, I've been saying that for a while...).
William B Davis: I have transcribed a long, interesting article on William B Davis from DreamWatch in 2000. It's interesting to read this one in the light of the events of the subsequent three seasons. See it here.
Robert Patrick Fanlisting: At last! I've been saying we needed one of these for a while. RP ROCKS! And it's a gorgeous site for a deserving actor. From Megan, we'd expect nothing less!
Don S Williams: The New York Times ran a story a week or two ago about the Parkinson's Disease cluster which has interested researchers. Don S Williams (First Elder) is one of those affected, and there are a few quotes and a picture. It's available to members, and registration is free. If you have problems accessing it, I've mirrored it here.
Season 5 Outtakes: Gertiebeth has heaps of captures from the Season 5 DVD extras. These include the Inside The X Files special and lots of additional interviews. Lots of supporting actors from Seasons 1-5 are there, including Mimi Rogers, Nicholas Lea, Laurie Holden, William B Davis, Steven Williams, Jerry Hardin, Sheila Larken and more. See particularly pages 3-8. Check it out!
Random Finale Items: I said I wouldn't do too much of a finale recap, but there are a few editorial items which remain of interest even though it's over. There's a Cinescape editorial. TV Now has cool interviews with Dean Haglund, John Shiban, and Chris Owens. TV Guide Online has an interview with William B Davis. Zap2It ran a good piece with quotes from lots of cast members - see it here. E! Online gave their top fifteen moments from the show. Houston Chronicle did a cute piece on their favourite guest characters. The Official Site has now added the extra images from the finale, including great ones of Gibson, Doggett, CSM, and Marita. I win a bet for Marita - when it was blurred, Schwarte at the Philedom2k boards bet me "all the change in his pants" that it was Skinner. Since our exchange rate stinks, I could make a mint taking him up on that. But I won't. Because I'm nice. :-)
CGI Gurus: Is anyone here reasonably familiar with CGI scripts? I have a question about the new automated archive if anyone can help. See the details here.
